Music was the conduit for raising awareness of three significant causes at The Panama Jazz Connection – a live-to-air concert and after party featuring Grammy Award-winning artists in partnership with JAZZ.FM91 and Boston’s Berklee College of Music. The fundraising event was held during the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto, with proceeds going to the Danilo Perez Foundation in Panama, The Berklee Global Jazz Institute in Boston and local education initiatives through JAZZ.FM91. The sold-out initiative exceeded its monetary goal and its fundraising model was adopted by JAZZ.FM91for all future events.
Level 1 Collective partnered with JAZZ.FM91 for an evening of contemporary jazz, held at the intimate Long & McQuade Performance Hall during the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto. Dubbed “The Panama Jazz Connection”, this live-to-air performance featured Grammy Award-winning pianist Danilo Perez, Grammy Award-winning drummer Brian Blade, Grammy Award-nominated bassist John Patitucci and exceptionally talented future stars in contemporary jazz from Boston’s Berklee Global Jazz Institute.
50 guests attended the concert, with an additional 100 guests joining them for an after party at the JAZZ.FM91 headquarters in Toronto’s Liberty Village. Proceeds from The Panama Jazz Connection went to the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, as well as the Danilo Perez Foundation in Panama and Jazz.FM91’s outreach programs, both of which are dedicated to fostering hope, reason and purpose for youth through music.
